T Mobile Announces they Will Pay Early Termination Fees for Families in “Contract Freedom”

Back at CES in 2013, T-Mobile announced they are going to be the UNcarrier in 2013, and shake up the wireless industry. And T-Mobile did just that in 2013, now in 2014, T-Mobile’s got even more planned. At their press conference today at CES 2014, T-Mobile is eliminating one of the last remaining obstacles for individuals and families looking to switch from AT&T, Sprint or Verizon to T-Mobile. Which is paying off their early termination fee. With an eligible phone trade-in, the total value of the offer to switch to T-mobile could be as high as $650 per line. “We;re giving families a ‘get out of jail free card’” Said John Legere. “Carriers have counted on staggered contract end dates and heft early termination fees to keep people bound to them forever. But now families can switch to T-Mobile without paying a single red cent to leave them behind.”

As we’ve been reporting all year long, customers have been flocking over to T-Mobile for their no annual service contract Simple Choice Plans, and their new JUMP early-upgrade program. Not to mention the fact that T-Mobile is giving you 200MB of data for free for tablets. As well as free international data with their Simple Choice plans.

Starting tomorrow, January 9th, Customers from any of the three major national carriers who hand in their eligible devices at any participating T-Mobile location and switch to a postpaid Simple Choice Plan can receive an instant credit, based on the value of their phone, up to $300. Customers will be able to purchase an eligible device, including T-Mobile’s most popular smartphones which are priced at $0 down. After customers get the final bill from their old carrier, they either mail it to T-Mobile or upload it to www.switch2tmobile.com. T-Mobile will then send an additional payment equal to those fees, up to $350 per line. Trade-in of their old phone, purchase of a new T-Mobile phone and porting of their phone number to T-Mobile are required to qualify, as expected.

This is a huge bold move for T-Mobile. Of course, all of the moves T-Mobile has made in the past year have been pretty big moves for magenta.
